Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a library card?
Just bring your ID to the library and fill out a registration form! There is no charge for residents of Iron and Madison Counties. Click here for more information.
What does a library card cost?
How long can books be checked out? Are there fines for late books?
Books can be checked out for three weeks, but other items may allow less time. We do charge late fines of $0.20/per day (less for children's books and magazines). Click here for more information.
Note: The Library does not accept replacement copies in lieu of payment for lost or damaged items.
What items other than books do you have?
We have all sorts of interesting things, from games to DVDs, from fishing poles to cake pans! Visit one of our libraries or check our catalog for more details!
How do I access my library account?
Click on the Catalogue button at the top of the page, then click the My Account button at top right. Enter your library card number and your PIN/password, and you're in!
What is my PIN/password? What if I have problems with my PIN/password?
Library staff gave you a PIN or password when you registered for your library card. If you have forgotten your PIN/password, present your card at your library and ask staff to reset it. Due to privacy concerns we can give or change your PIN/password over the phone only after we confirm your identity.
Can I recommend a book/DVD for the library to buy?
Absolutely! Please ask at the circulation desk for a Suggest for Purchase form, and we will determine whether the book/DVD/other item fits our collection! Submitting a Suggest for Purchase form does not obligate the library to purchase said item. The form may also be found here.
Alternatively, you can make a suggestion online via this link: https://form.jotform.com/242564494742060
What is an ILL?
Sometimes the library will not own a particular book which a patron would like to read. A patron in good standing may make an Interlibrary Loan request to borrow such an item from a library outside our system. We request these items from libraries throughout the state of Missouri! Submitting an ILL request form does not guarantee that we will be able to borrow the requested item.
How do I access the library's computers?
Just bring in your library card and enter your card number into the computer for one hour's computer use! (Does not apply in Viburnum) If you don't have a library card, we can give you a one-time guest pass.
Do you have WiFi?
Yes! Just connect to our WiFi hotspot and agree to our terms of service in your browser.
Is computer help available?
Skilled help is not always available, but there are scheduled days at each library for in-depth help. All staff should be able to help with simple questions, but more in-depth questions require our technology specialists who will be at your library one or two days a month.
Do you offer ebooks?
Yes, we have ebooks available through Missouri Libraries 2 Go! Click here for more information. Information on using the Libby app may be found on this handout which you may download.
When is the library open? On what days is the library closed?
Our libraries are open most days, depending on the location! We do close for state and federal holidays, as well as for especially bad weather. Click here for more information.
What events are going on at the library?
We have programs of all sorts happening at the library! Check our Events Calendar for what's happening at your library!
