Before donating your computer

If you are making a personal or company donation of computer hardware to our Computer Hardware UpCycling Program we’ve written up a few tips and guidelines to ensure a smooth dropoff.

Computers we can take, computers we can’t take

First, thanks for the consideration! We want to save as many computers as possible but sadly there will be some that we cannot accept.

  • We can take Windows PCs or Macs
  • While we can take older computers they need to have been made within the past 15 years. Anything older than 2010 should be recycled.
  • Your computer should start and boot up to the login screen or desktop. We are not able to do physical repairs so if your computer is damaged and will not boot please don’t donate it.
  • Along with a proper boot-up, your computer should not have a cracked screen or bulging batteries.
  • If you’re bringing a desktop computer please also bring a keyboard and mouse, wired or bluetooth.
  • Bring the matching power cord for any hardware, computer or display.

TWO things to do before you bring your computer in to us

  1. Turn it on at your business or home to ensure that it still works with the power cord you will bring with it.
  2. Check it for files you may want to keep and copy them to a usb thumbdrive or other storage.

Before dropping off please use our online form

Our program is just getting started and while we want to take in as many computers as possible we have limited space and volunteer hours to process donated computers. Your donation begins with filling out our short online form using the button below.

Within a few days of your form submission you’ll get a call and/or email back to confirm your donation and arrange your drop-off date and time. Currently we are only accepting donations at our partner facility, Madison County Recovery Allies, 505 South Main Street.

If we're not able to take your computer we ecnourage you to drop off at MRC Recycling in Park Hills. It's free and the next best thing to UpCycling. They'll recycle any electronic device or appliance.

Thanks for your considering a donation to our program!
